Britney Spears is reportedly just a week away from signing up to take part in The X Factor USA, with rumours that the popstar will get £10 million for one series of the show.
US media report that Britney’s fiancé and agent, Jason Trawick, is negotiating the deal on her behalf, with the two sides close to reaching a final agreement.
Deadline claims that the current offer on the table is $10 million, worth around £6.5 million, but Britney and Jason are hoping to see that rise closer to $15 million.
X Factor USA boss Simon Cowell said recently that he was fascinated by the singer, and admitted she’d be a great mentor for the show.
“Are we flattered there would be interest from Britney Spears? Yes,” he said. “I’m fascinated by Britney.
“The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars, but people – in the world today means that you’ve got this star power. This girl has resilience.
“I would think that if she’s managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough… [X Factor would be] a walk in the park.
“I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial. There’s a reason for that.”
The X Factor USA is currently in need of two new female judges after Simon axed by Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul after only the one series.
The first ever US season also lost Brit host Steve Jones, with Simon revealing he wants a male and female duo to front the show when it returns to TV in the autumn.
