Nicole Scherzinger has been caught out telling a few fibs about The X Factor USA, we can reveal. The Pussycat Dolls signer claimed this week that she only found out that she’d be a judge on the show from the papers, however the singer actually spoke about her new role 2 weeks ago – before news had even first broken.
In an appearance on The Graham Norton Show this week, Nicole claims that she didn’t find out about the change in role until everyone else did. “I haven’t said this yet, but I think it’s official that I have been made a judge. It’s an amazing opportunity,” Nicole explained.
“I’m kind of finding out along with everyone else. It’s kind of crazy to read about it in the newspaper first.”
However in the latest twist to the story, Nicole originally spoke about her new role as judge on the show back on May 24 – BEFORE news of Cheryl Cole’s first axe from the show was even reported.
In an interview on American radio show Kiis FM, Nicole spoke about her new job as a judge on the US version of the show.
“They actually asked me to guest judge in the UK last year,” Nicole tells host JoJo, “They said you can perform the song, so I said amazing. It was really well received, I didn’t mess it up that badly, so they asked me to come back and do some more judging. Ever since then I’ve had a great relationship with Simon and he asked me to do the X Factor over here.”
Host JoJo later tells Nicole: “Good luck ’cause I know you’ve switched from being the host of the show to a judge so just kill it.”
A coy Nicole replies only: “Thank you.”
Nnews of Cheryl’s ‘first’ axe on the US show first broke on May 25, with TMZ reporting that Cheryl had been given the chop from the show, however while Nicole’s interview went out on May 28, it was originally recorded on May 24, as pictures Nicole posted on Twitter indicate. The timings mean that despite her claims of ignorance, Nicole – and others – knew that she was set to become a judge before it was ever leaked to the press.
