We’ve been wondering what’s been going on with the whole One Direction v One Direction saga for some time, and it seems Simon Cowell has now bitten back.
The whole thing started last year, when a US band called One Direction claimed that that the UK group were illegally using their name.
They sued the band and Simon Cowell’s Syco label for $1 million in damages and a percentage of US profits made by the X Factor stars.
But this week Simon, Syco and its parent Sony Music have countersued the group.
In the suit, they claim that the US group “devised and perpetrated a scheme to exploit the goodwill” of the UK group.
While the US version of One Direction claim they were together before the UK band were formed in 2010, their first music wasn’t released until February 2011, after One Direction finished third on the UK X Factor.
At least the lawyers will be happy with all the lawsuits.
