Comic Peter Kay will be a special guest at The X Factor 2012 auditions in Liverpool today.

Try outs for the new series kick off at the city’s Echo Arena, with thousands of fans expected to turn up to watch the judges in action.

Not only will Gary Barlow, Tulisa and Louis Walsh be there, but Liverpool will also see guest judge Geri Halliwell.

And as an extra treat, Manchester funnyman Peter Kay will be on hand to warm up the crowd, after personally asking show bosses to get involved.

“Peter loves reality TV,” a source told The Sun today. “He is also good mates with Gary and wanted to have a taste of it. He rang up the producers on the show and asked to be part of the team in Liverpool.

“He’ll do a few gags and he may even throw in a Take That number.”
