X Factor boss Simon Cowell has declared that One Direction saved the show!
The music mogul said that he felt that doing the show was a waste of time after years of artists flopping.
A lot of the show’s winners, such as Joe McElderry, were dropped after only one album.
“I thought: ‘If we don’t find real stars, it’s a waste of everyone’s time.’,” Simon conceded this week.
But One Direction, despite not winning nor coming second, have gone on to have world wide success.
The group – made up of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik – finished third on the show back in 2010.
Simon boasted: “They’re No 1 in 30 countries. That’s when you realise it’s really worth making this show.”
The ninth series of the reality series begins its auditions in Liverpool next week.
