Simon Cowell has declared that The X Factor 2012 will be the year of the groups, or so he thinks.
With two groups – The Loveable Rogues and The Mend – both doing so well in Britain’s Got Talent, it seems that he’s probably right.
Following the worldwide success of One Direction and Little Mix‘s win on last year’s show, more groups than ever have beeen trying out for this year’s audtitions.
“You’re going to suddenly see this year the emergence of boybands and girlbands taking over the charts,” Simon declared this week.
Speaking on US telly, Simon said: “We had a group called One Direction who were on X Factor UK a couple of years ago.
“Their album launched in America and debuted at number one. This band were completely unheard of but very talented.”
And Simon says that he has high aims for the groups flooding auditions for The X Factor across the world.
He explained: “It would be great to find the next NSync, the next Backstreet Boys, the next Destiny’s Child on X Factor – there is a gap in the market right now for a group like that from America.”
Filming for X Factor UK begins in Liverpool on May 23.
