X Factor 2012 judges: Who will replace Kelly Rowland?

X Factor 2011 panel

Following the announcement that Kelly Rowland has quit The X Factor, we look at her possible replacements.

The US star announced yesterday that she wouldn’t be back on the show this year, blaming a hectic schedule preventing her from committing to another series.

Kelly’s exit has left the door open to a new judge to join Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Tulisa this year, but who will it be?

Dannii Minogue

Former X Factor judge Dannii is the favourite to take over, with reports this weekend suggesting that Simon Cowell is already in talks with the Aussie star to come back after leaving last year. Dannii proved a good judge on the show between 2007 and 2010, and while we’d love her back, we’d also like to see a new face on the panel.

Simon Cowell

We’ve seen Simon Cowell return to Britain’s Got Talent this year, could a X Factor return also be on the cards? Simon previously insisted he “misses” the show, but he also confirmed it’d be impossible for him to judge on the UK version while the USA one is still going. We’re ruling him out, but who knows what will happen next year!

Katy Perry

Having previous guest judged on the show and gone down a hit, Katy Perry is our top choice. Not only will she be a new fresh face on the panel, but also provide a very different personality that will no doubt compliment the current judges. Outspoken, bubbly and a pretty good performer, we see no reason why Katy won’t be a hit on the show as a permanent star! Of course, bagging such a high profile and currently successful singer may be an issue, but we imagine Simon will splash the cash to boost ratings.

Cheryl Cole

Former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is the 3/1 second favourite behind Dannii Minogue to return, although it’s an unlikely one. The singer previously insisted that the X Factor was now part of her history, and if her Twitter is anything to go by, it seems she’s now a Voice UK fan. But the Girls Aloud singer did admit recently that she wouldn’t rule out working with Simon Cowell again.

Others in the running – according to the bookies, at least – include everyone from Adele at 8/1 to Noel Gallagher at 20/1.

A spokesperson for The X Factor said yesterday: “The judging panel will be announced in due course”
