The Voice UK hopeful Sophie Griffin auditioned alongside Janet Devlin on The X Factor last year, it’s been revealed.
Northern Irish Sophie joined Team Will.i.am on the show last night, after getting booted from The X Factor at the bootcamp stages.
Sophie was one of the final few singers to face the panel, and admitted she feared getting rejected for a second time.
“We were taken aside by the show’s producers and told that we mightn’t even get a chance to blind audition if all the remaining places were snapped up beforehand,” she explained to the Belfast Telegraph.
“That only added to the pressure. But luckily I did get to perform. It was so difficult not seeing the reaction of the mentors, but the audience really got into it, which helped.”
Revealing her experience on The X Factor, Sophie said that her rejection spurred her on to audition for The Voice.
She told the newspaper: “It was tough but I would not be the person I am now if I hadn’t been knocked back. It made me 100% determined to follow my dream.”
And the teenager revealed she expected comparisons to be drawn between her and Janet Devlin, who finished fifth on the show last autumn.
Sophie suggested: “Because we both grew up in the country, love music and are around the same age, I think I probably will be compared to her and that’s not really a bad thing.
“But while Janet’s style is quite indie and grungy, I’m more into artists like Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J.”
