It was almost certain to happen, but now it’s official: One Direction have become the most successful act from The X Factor 2010, despite finishing in third place.
The boys have sold over 500,000 copies of their debut album Up All Night, more than twice as many as actual winner Matt Cardle.
The group are now hoping to crack America this year, following on from their first ever headlining tour in December.
X Factor 2010 runner up Rebecca Ferguson has also sold well, with her debut record Heaven having shifted some 405,000 copies despite having only released one single.
Matt Cardle’s album Letters however has sold 245,000 copies since its release last autumn, while fourth placed Cher Lloyd has sold just over 200,000 copies of Sticks + Stones.
