X Factor finalists should write their own winner's song, suggests Janet Devlin

Janet Devlin

X Factor finalist Janet Devkin has said she thinks that the show’s winner’s single should be written by the contestants themselves in future. The 17-year-old, who finished the show in fifth place earlier this year, suggested the talent contest should involve more writing.

Janet told the Newsletter this week: “I just think that a nice idea would be, like when you arrive at the very beginning, when you get to the house, you have a few weeks before the show actually starts, and in that period of time, everyone sits down and writes a song – and that can be the winner’s single.”

And the Northern Irish teenager also revealed plans to relocate to London in the new year ahead of the X Factor 2012 live tour.

She explained: “It’s a lot of money to be flying back and forth so much, and anyway, you’re more accessible (in terms of doing) things if you’re living in London – and it’s not hard to fly home.”

I like the idea. The song would need to be written under exam conditions as I think most of them this year would have needed lots of producer help (excl Janet of course!). Each contestant could choose the week to use it like a “get out of jail card”. I can picture Simon turning in his sleep as it would put the cat among the pigeons I supect.

Now that really is a good idea!
