26-year-old Joseph Whelan gives a “brilliant audition” on The X Factor UK tonight.
The tool salesman from Wolverhampton reveals he hopes to become a star to help provide for his young son.
“When I look at Kian he just lights up my life,” Joseph says about his child. “Being a father is the best thing ever, the first time I laid eyes on him for some reason something inside of me just changed, my whole perspective on life changed completely.
“Me and his mum broke up not long back so Kian doesn’t live with me unfortunately, I do really miss that, I miss living with him. Ever since he was born I’ve been round him every day and sometimes ya know to come back from work to an empty flat, there’s just me there and I’ve got his pictures around and that sort of thing… it’s heart breaking.”
Joseph tells Dermot: “Well the reason that I’m here today is because I really want to try and give my son the best life possible, I’d feel complete in life if I could do that.
“There is so much riding on this for me…not just or myself, not just because I want to be a musician, I really want to make my son proud, I really want to make him happy.”
On stage and Joseph tells the judges: “I’ve been playing in bands for ten years now and I want to do something on my own and also I’ve got a four year old son and I want to do the best I can for him, give him the best life I can. He’s really lovely as well.”
After performing Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin for the panel at the try outs in Manchester, Tulisa and Louis seem won over.
Tulisa raves: “Joseph oh my god. What a voice! What a tone you have. I think Gary’s gonna start getting jealous because you’re gonna be stealing all of the female attention.
While Louis adds: “Joseph that was a brilliant audition, you’ve got an amazing talent, you’ve got an authentic rock voice.”
