X Factor 2012 hopeful Curtis Golden has described his experience of coming out as gay as a “disappointment”.
The 18-year-old student impressed three of the judges on last night’s show with an original take on Christina Aguilera hit Candyman.
However guest judge Mel B wasn’t won over, branding him “irritating”.
Speaking about his decision to apply, the nervous teenager revealed how a car crash had given him the motivation to audition.
After nearly dying in the smash, he said: “You kind of stop giving a c**p.”
The near death experience also prompted Curtis came out as gay to his dad last year, but described the experience as a “disappointment”.
“I wouldn’t have done it but I had a car crash that day and I was concussed,” he said. “I wasn’t hurt but it was quite a bad crash, so I thought ‘I’ll just do it’.”
“I had been waiting a while to come out, since I was 16.”
He added: “You imagine it to be huge. I wanted an argument or something but my dad was like, ‘OK’.”
