The Voice UK host Reggie Yates has said it’s unfair to compare the show with The X Factor.
The Radio 1 DJ fronted the BBC One series this year, and insisted that the show needed time to mature after only one year on screen.
“If you look at the first episode to the final, you can see the production, the lighting got better. We got better, everything got better week on week because we were learning,” Reggie told The Sun today.
Hitting out at ratings comparisons with The X Factor, Reggie said: “To compare us to The X Factor which has been on for nine years just feels unfair.
“We’d just started and if you rule out all the comparisons and look at what we did then I think you’d see we did a bloody good job first time around.”
Sir Tom Jones won the first series of with his artist Leanne Mitchell earlier this month.
Despite some criticisms of Tom on the panel, Reggie defended the Welsh legend: “He did really great. I’m pleased for him because at points it felt like his way of doing things might not be as dynamic as the other judges because Will is so big, Jessie’s so loud and Danny’s so lovely, friendly and warm.
“Tom might not be as dynamic as those guys but whatever he did, it worked.”
