The creator of The Voice UK has said that he plans a big meeting with BBC bosses after the current series ends.
Reality telly entrepreneur John De Mol, creator of The Voice and Big Brother, admitted that the current format wasn’t up to scratch.
Speaking to the Radio Times, he teased big changes would be made to next year’s series, guaranteed as part of a £22 million two-year deal with the Beeb.
“We’ll have a meeting with the BBC to come up with some new ideas to make the live shows more exciting,” he told the magazine. “The role of the coaches can be bigger.
“In the semi-final, the coaches were just watching the talent perform. They had no influence. That’s something we should change.
“On Saturday, it was 100 per cent up to the audience.”
He also admitted that the show needed “more competition”, but that the current coaches – Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Danny O’Donoghue – would hopefully be back next year.
John added: “We’ll talk about the coaches with the BBC right after the final this Saturday. As far as I’m concerned we have four great characters but it’s too early to say.”
The Voice UK final airs this Saturday night at 7:20PM.
