BBC bosses want The Voice 2012 ratings to improve by 3 million viewers

BBC bosses want The Voice UK to pull in 3 million more viewers if its to be branded a success.

The singing contestant continued with its poor ratings at the weekend, with 5.7 million million viewers tuning, almost half its 10.7 million audience from the auditions.

Having spent £22 million on the format, chiefs want at least 8 million people tuning to make the cost worthwhile.

And unlike commercial channels such as ITV, the BBC has to listen to the license payers.

“There have been frantic calls and emails. The BBC wanted a far edgier show,” a source told the Mail One Sunday.

Another insider suggested that next year’s second series could be axed if ratings don’t improve with the last two live shows.

“It feels like the show is imploding. We got off to such a great start and now it’s turned sour,” a supposed source told the Daily Star today.

They added: “At this rate we won’t have a show to bring back next year.”

Just eight acts remain in the competition, who will all fight it out this Saturday night for a spot in the final.
