BBC bosses 'demand changes' to The Voice UK after drop in ratings

The Voice UK logoThe Voice UK’s producers are said to have held a ‘crisis meeting’ after last weekend’s first ‘live’ shows experienced a slump in the ratings.

According to the Daily Star, chiefs are ‘furious’ that arch rival Britain’s Got Talent has edged ahead in the ratings battle, and are planning to make changes to the format in an attempt to reverse the decline.

Saturday’s edition of the BBC talent contest attracted 9.3million viewers – 100,000 less than BGT – while Sunday’s results show sunk to 8.2million viewers, amid complaints that it had been pre-recorded.

The coaches’ group performance has apparently been scrapped, with Will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue set to follow the lead the American version by singing with their teams instead.

Meanwhile, the quartet have reportedly been instructed to become more ‘critical’, and to ‘do their homework’ after Jones called Joelle Moses ‘Jolene’ live on air.

Double eliminations will also be introduced to increase the ‘drama’, while a number of star guests are being lined-up, with Adele among rumoured names.

A source told the newspaper: “The BBC know that The Voice is liked by fans but the first live show didn’t quite go as planned.

“They’re ordering a shake-up because they cannot afford to lose viewers.”

continues this Saturday at 7.00pm on BBC One, when Teams Jessie and Danny will be performing for viewers’ votes.
