We caught up with eliminated Voice UK hopeful Sophie Griffin this evening to chat about her (unfortunately short) time on the show, but she insisted one thing: I’ve no regrets!
Speaking after her exit on Sunday night, Sophie confessed she was feeling “up and down”, but said: “I’m mostly up… music has always been for me and I’m never going to give up, I think I’m definitely going to carry on.”
The 17-year-old heaped praise on coach Will.i.am, even if it was his decision not to save her at the weekend.
She gushed: “Will is amazing, I loved him just because he was so creative, because he’s so quirky and I’m so silly and it was nice to know that he was himself. He brings that to his music and he’s amazing and I love him.”
And Northern Irish singer Sophie insists that, even if The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue had turned around back at the blind auditions, she still would’ve picked the Black Eyed Peas star.
“If all four would’ve turned around I still would’ve gone for Will. As a coach and a mentor I 100% wanted Will and I always said that from the start,” she told us.
Unlike some of the other singers on the show, Sophie chose her own song on Saturday night, but has no regrets.
“I suggested it and it was the one I really wanted to sing and Will loved it,” she explained. “I don’t regret singing it. It was also what I was feeling. I got a bit of a hard time from the battles because J Marie is so popular and so amazing, so I loved singing that track.”
She added: “I think I was born to do this, I know it sounds… but I just said to myself ‘This is your moment, do it like you dreamt of doing it.”
Sophie auditioned for The X Factor last year, where she was harshly cut at bootcamp without singing.
While keen not to “slam” the rival show, she said of her experiences on both: “They don’t compare. If I’m honest about it, The X Factor is amazing, it promotes talent, but The Voice celebrates everything that’s right, it celebrates music in the right way.
“Every single person since the blinds have been amazing and been their own artists.”
But Sophie insisted this would be the end of her attempts at reality telly, so don’t expect her popping up on Britain’s Got Talent anytime soon!
She revealed: “I think I’m going to take this platform and take all the contacts I’ve made and dive right in. I’m going to use all these emotions and experience to create some good music
“A lot of people inspire me, like Ed Sheeran, just because you wouldn’t expect him to do the stuff he does. Nicki Minaj as well, she takes a lot of risks but she’s totally herself, she doesn’t care what anyone else says. ”
We can’t wait to see what Sophie comes out with in the future!
