Sam Buttery’s vocal impressed on the first Voice UK live final tonight, but his staging was criticized by the coaches.
The 20-year-old performed A Little Respect by Erasure on the opening show this evening.
Will.i.am said: “I was truly entertained. I still have my ear… there was a part that was flat but I didn’t care, because I just like watching you.”
Jessie J told him: “Firstly, I’m going to say your vocal is great… but I would’ve preferred to see just you on stage and not a full musical on stage. I feel like the dancers weren’t to my taste.”
Danny O’Donoghue added: “That was a timeless performance, behind the personality there’s a great, great singer there.”
Finally, Sam’s coach Sir Tom Jones said: “Sam was worried about this timing in rehearsals, but tonight it was spot on.”
