Ruth Brown closed the first Voice UK live final tonight with a huge performance that showed off her powerhouse vocals.
The 20-year-old performed Get Here by Oleta Adams on the opening show this evening.
Will.i.am said: “You make me proud to be here. The show is a special show because the idea of listening for The Voice… I dunno if people would’ve seen you on any other show.”
Jessie J told her: “I was crying, I remember when I was 15 and I sung that song on TV and I was scared. I watched you with so much admiration, I was so proud. Your voice is so natural, your timing… it doesn’t feel like you’re singing someone else’s song. You did your father proud.”
Danny O’Donoghue added: “Absolutely mesmerising performance. You are astonishing.”
Finally, Ruth’s coach Sir Tom Jones said: “There’s so much applause I can’t hear what you’re saying.
“If Ruth was being judged on applause then she’d win. I must say, I’ve heard a lot of singers in my life but this girl has something else. She’s fantastic.
“I hope she comes across on television as she does in this room because she’s wonderful.”
