Emmy J Mac joined Team Danny O’Donoghue on The Voice UK tonight after impressing three of the coaches with her rendition of ‘Put Your Records On’.
As the 21-year-old – full name Emily McGregor – performed the Corinne Bailey Rae song, Danny, Tom Jones and will.i.am all decided to spin their chairs, while Jessie J just stopped herself from following suit.
The trio then attemped to woo her, with Will.i.am saying: “You have a lovely lovely voice. There was a part where you were pitchy, but like who cares?”
Tom couldn’t stop himself from namedropping: “You have a beautiful tone to your voice. I’ve done duets with a lot of great people, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and I know when I hear a voice that has something.”
Danny then chipped in. “This competition is about trying to find someone that has a signature, sonic thumbprint,” he commented. ‘Someone from the second you turn on the radio, you know who it is. I really believe you have that.”
“I never in a million dreams thought I’d have to make this decision,” replied Emily. “This is really hard because I just think all of you are amazing. I’m absolutely, ridiculously honoured.”
But she eventually opted for Danny, becoming the ninth act on his team of ten.
