Former Strictly Come Dancing backing singer J Marie Cooper joined Team will.i.am on tonight’s opening of The Voice UK.
The red-haired singer impressed the coaches with her take on Jessie J track Mamma Knows Best, with Will.i.am being the first coach to turn around.
Jessie J followed, with Danny and Sir Tom also pressing their buzzers in quick succession for a full house of coaches for J Marie.
Jessie told her: “That was insane. Your voice is re-donk-uloso. Come on be on my team please.”
Will added: “Lots of singers can do the runs and the flips and tricks, but the power was when you weren’t flipping. I felt it in the first couple of notes, that’s why I turned around and that’s why I think you’re a star of an artist.”
“I was the last to turn around because I was listening to it, I wanted to enjoy the whole thing,” Tom commented.
With four coaches to choose from, J Marie said: “I’m stuck between Will and Jessie at the moment.”
Will said: “Jessie’s hot right now. She’s current, right now. But I remember the first time we had success [in Black Eyed Peas], and the second time, and the third time, and fourth time.”
J Marie continued: “Erm… Erm… oh my gosh! This will surprise people but I’m going with Will because he turned around first.”
And with that, J Marie became the first artist on Will’s team.
