Apprentice 2012 winner Ricky Martin: 'I've become a businessman'

Apprentice 2012 Ricky Martin

The Apprentice 2012 winner Ricky Martin is to give up his wrestling side job, saying the show has turned him into a professional businessman.

Ricky last night won Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment in a surprise final result, beating Tom Gearing in the final boardroom.

Speaking about his rather outrageous comments and claims during at the start of the series, Ricky admitted: “Obviously when you enter this process, there’s hundreds and thousands of people who want to take part. And lots and lots in my area of work. So you have to do something to stand out. I can’t deny that it wasn’t part of my character though. I am Ricky The Wrestler part-time.”

But he added: “However, I did realise halfway through that Ricky The Wrestler isn’t going to get anywhere in life. I needed to be Ricky the Businessman. I went in there the wrestler, I came out the polished businessman.”

In an interview with DigtialSpy, Ricky said he was excited to start work with Lord Sugar on his business idea, a technology focused recruitment agency.

He said: “I’m excited and I’m not intimidated about working with him at all.

“I think the fact I’ve spent so much time in the boardroom, I was in the bottom three so many times, I really feel like I know him quite well. I think I know what he likes, what he expects and I think he knows about me. I think Lord Sugar saw in me that I was someone who would work well with him. I think we’ll work well as a partnership.

“It’s black and white with Lord Sugar. He wants to cut the crap and he wants a yes or a no. I think he’ll bring the best out of me.”
