Amanda Holden is the host as Andrew Lloyd Webber launches a new talent search to find a singer and actor to play the title role in a forthcoming arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
In this opening show, it’s the auditions, and Lord Webber is helped by judges Jason Donovan and Melanie C, who will be playing Mary Magdalene in the show, which also stars Tim Minchin and radio’s Chris Moyles, as Judas and Herod respectively.
The process begins with the audition tour, where Andrew meets the early hopefuls, before the top 100 face the panel.
The lucky hopefuls will be whittled down to just six, who will go on to compete in the live finals this summer where one of them will get to play Jesus.
The Arena tour of the musical will kick off in September, having already sold out dates at London’s O2 Arena.
Superstar starts at 7:25PM, this Saturday on ITV1.
