Strictly Come Dancing star Lisa Riley has said she hopes to encourage other ‘big girls’ to dance.
Speaking to the Sunday People newspaper, the Emmerdale actress revealed her inspiration was former Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.
Michelle won the show back in 2003, much to the anger of judge Pete Waterman who made no secret of the fact that he didn’t like Michelle’s look.
“She got vilified for her size and at the end of the day it was her talent. She had a cracking voice,” Lisa told the tabloid.
Chatting about Strictly, Lisa said: “People have said I have put big girls on the map, that for once you don’t have to look plastic and fake, you can be real and everybody is just saying thank you for doing that.”
The soap star, who once again scored top marks from the judges on Saturday night’s Hollywood themed performance show, added: “I’m encouraging women to get out there, to dance, and not to feel embarrassed about themselves.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues next weekend with the latest performance show.
