Show Me The Funny host Jason Manford has suggested that the new ITV1 reality talent series is more like The Apprentice for comics, rather than a comedy version of The X Factor. Speaking to Star magazine about the new series, Jason added his role was a mix of Ant and Dec, Lord Sugar and Dermot O’Leary – blimey!
Despite the show being touted as an X Factor competition for stand ups, Jason insisted: “I’m putting that rumour to bed – it’s more like The Apprentice for comedians.
“The ten people we’ve got range from comics who’ve been doing it for 20 years to one who’s been doing it a year. They’ve all done gigs on an amateur level but they just haven’t had their big break.”
Jason continued: “I’m [Lord] Sugar when I’m setting the tasks, Ant and Dec when I’m telling them the results, and a bit like Dermot O’Leary when the judges are giving feedback.”
Joining Jason on the show will be chief judge Alan Davies and comic critic Kate Copstick. They’ll be joined by a guest judge every week with the likes of Ross Noble, Jo Brand and Johnny Vegas appearing.
Show Me The Funny stars on ITV1 at 9PM on Monday, July 18.
