After settling in to Snake Rock, Jessica brought up the story – which appeared in The Sun in 1986 – and asked him if it was true.
“I was too nervous to ask!” joked Dougie.
“No, I’m a vegetarian,” responded Freddie. He explained: “Some fella phoned up Max Clifford and said, ‘my girlfriend said Freddie Starr ate her hamster’.
“He said ‘f**k that’ and put the phone down. Then he said, ‘oh, there’s a story in that’, so he phoned his mate up at The Sun and said ‘someone’s been on the phone, this girl, and she’s a beauty queen’, so they went down and interviewed her, and she said I put it on two pieces of bread and ate it.”
Dougie wondered if he would eat a hamster. Freddie replied: “No, I couldn’t crack its skull.”
“Do you know anyone who has eaten a hamster?” queried Jessica.
“No. If you were to eat a hamster, you’d choke,” came Freddie’s response.
If we were them we wouldn’t be giving I’m A Celeb bosses ideas for the next eating trial…
The I’m A Celebrity campmates wasted no time in asking Freddie Starr about the infamous headline ‘Freddie Starr ate my hamster!’
