Gareth Gates has been voted off in tonight’s Dancing On Ice 2014 results.
This evening’s live show saw the remaining seven skaters all perform live for the fifth time as they were marked and critiqued by the judges as usual.
Kyran Brackan, Ray Quinn, Hayley Tamaddon, Gareth Gates, Sam Attwater, Suzanne Shaw and Beth Tweddle all skated for the panel in a bid to get the marks to avoid the skate off.
At the top of the leaderboard was – to no one’s real surprise – Ray once more who only narrowly avoided matching his previously perfect with 39.5 points. Gareth was unfortunately trailing behind at the bottom of the scoreboard despite scoring his best marks of the series after getting 29 points from the judges.
But the judges’ points were only half the story with the marks being combined with the results of the public vote.
It was the first time for Gareth in the skate-off but it was the third time for Sam, and the second time in as many weeks.
Sam went first skating to Newton Faulkner’s Dream Catch Me before Gareth took to the ice again skating to U2 hit Beautiful Day.
It was then over to the judges to decide which of the pair would go home and who would stay in the competition.
Nicky Slater – who was standing in for an absent Robin Cousins – voted first, deciding to save Sam saying he gave a “stronger” performance.
Ashley Roberts agreed and also voted to save Sam, saying the soap star “killed it” in the skate off.
Jason Gardiner confirmed the result by also saving Sam, although said it was Gareth’s “best night” so far.
Karen Barber, who had been made head judge while Robin is away, concluded: “I am proud of you. I’m sad to see Gareth go but I’m saving Sam.”
Speaking after her exit, Gareth said: “It’s been amazing. I just want to thank this lady [Brianne]. Bless you all, thank you.”
