Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Beatrix Von Bourbon has said she’s determined to make burlesque into a genuine art form.
The 27-year-old will be performing on this evening’s fourth semi-final, surrounded by criticism after Ofcom launched an investigation into her first audition.
But Beatrix said: “I’ve spent the last six years learning and honing my craft. This year I felt I finally had enough experience under my belt to combine burlesque (a performance style most commonly seen live, on small intimate stages) with TV, a medium that doesn’t immediately suit burlesque.”
She explained: “I’m determined to help burlesque become accepted as a genuine art-form.
“It’s so often ridiculed as a form of therapy for people with body-issues, or as an ‘acceptable’ alternative to lap-dancing for those who derogatorily view stripping as working class and lacking in elegance. I wanted to demonstrate that burlesque can be a valid and engaging form of entertainment to a wide audience.”
Beatrix seemed confident ahead of the live shows, adding: “Rather than being nervous of the performance itself, I’m nervous of letting the judges down!
” They had enough faith to put me through to the semi-final stage, I feel I have to prove that I was worthy of that belief. I’m anxious that if I fail to step up to the challenge, I’ll be leaving many people feeling disappointed. After Simon said he was going to back me, I feel I have to answer his investment with an excellent performance.”
Britain’s Got Talent 2012 airs tonight on ITV1 from 7:30PM.
