9-year-old Malakai Paul wows on Britain's Got Talent 2012 after break down

Malakai - Britain's Got Talent 2012

9-year-old singer Malakai Paul wowed the judges on Britain’s Got Talent 2012 tonight, despite breaking down during his audition.

The school child was by far one of the youngest contestants to ever audition for the show, but took on a huge song in the form of Listen by Beyonce.

Before going on stage, he explained: “I’ve been singing for about three years and I really enjoy it. I really like Alicia keys and Beyonce songs and Michael Jackson as well.”

Asked what he would do with the £500,000 prize money if he won, Malakai replieed: “If I won half a million pounds I’d probably give my family £200 each, I’d still go to school and I’d probably have quite a good birthday as it’s in two months.”

Malakai’s mum however was worried about his nerves.

She confided in the camera: “The one thing I’m afraid about is Malakai getting stage fright. He gets a bit nervous. Usually I’m there with him, but now he’s got to face the music on his own, and that’s what I’m worried about. Hopefully he’ll just sail through it.”

And as he performs, the nerves got to young Malakai, as he began to cry.

“Are you alright sweetheart? You were doing so good!” Alesha told him as mum Toni-Ann ran on stage.

Alesha added: “You tell me if you want to sing or not, you tell me, what do you want to do sweetheart?”

Malakai replied: “I want to sing.”

“Just relax and enjoy it Malakai,” advised Alesha as she took her seat aagin.

Another go, and Malakai hit the high notes of the big song to a standing ovation.

Alesha raved: “Malakai, it’s very, very simple, you are a star. It’s a natural raw talent, that’s what we are looking for. That was amazing sweetheart.”

David Walliams added: “I thought that was a really special audition, I agree with Alesha, you’re a total star.”

Simon Cowell said: “I’ve got to tell you, what I like about you; you’re brave, you know you, you got off to a bad start but you picked yourself up and people are going to like you a lot.”

Backstage and Dec was quick to make sure that Malakai was alright.

he asked: “what was it like when you were up there, the whole place was on their feet, you got a standing ovation from everybody, how did that feel?

Malakai replied: “Well, I felt proud.”
