Simon Cowell vows to keep Britain's Got Talent 2012 'scandal free'

Britain’s Got Talent boss Simon Cowell has vowed that this year’s show will be “scandal” free, with rigours checks in place for the contestants.

It follows complaints last year after it was revealed a winner of Simon’s new game show Red or Black had been jailed for assault.

And more recently, it was revealed that two contestants on ITV1 dating series Take Me Out had both worked as escorts, and one had been charged with assault against a woman.

Simon told The Sun that any contestant with a criminal record will be kicked off of the show.

“I can’t check everybody but all those on the live shows will be checked,” he said.

He continued: “I regret the Red Or Black situation.

“Watching the show I was thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if someone wins a million.’ Then the phone rings and it’s like, ‘I can’t believe this.’

“Luckily, now we’re not the only controversial show.”
