X Factor 2011: Tulisa's 'arm salute' invented by production team?

X Factor star Tulisa’s ‘arm salute’ was supposedly invented by the show’s production team… to give her something to do! According to Reveal magazine, the producers wanted to give Tulisa her own trademark after Cheryl’s salute last year.

Unfortunately, the movement has landed the show in hot water with telly watchdog Ofcom over claims it’s promoting the singer’s new perfume.

A spokesperson confirmed: “It’s still an ongoing investigation. It could take months, but we are taking the incident seriously and we’re looking into it.”

A supposed show source claimed this week: “Tulisa is absolutely furious that people have been complaining about her arm salute.

“It was invented by production crew to give her something to do when appearing at the start of the show. Cheryl Cole had her salute last year and this is Tulisa’s trademark.

“She wasn’t that keen on it at the start. It gave her a ‘street’ identity – whereas Kelly was promoted as the sharing, caring one so she got a big glossy smile.”

The insider added: “She’ feels as though she’s been made to look stupid, when the same salute wasn’t the even her idea in the first place.”

However Tulisa previously insisted that the salute has always been her trademark, and she’s not going to stop doing it!

“I was showing off my tattoo long before The X Factor. It’s always been my trademark and it’s always been my nickname,” the feisty N-Dubz star said.
