X Factor hopeful Amelia Lily has to undergo four injections a day to help tackle her severe diabetes whilst performing on the show, it has been revealed. Speaking to the Daily Star today, the 17-year-old admitted to fearing that continuing on the show could affect her health.
While we’re not sure whether to trust the tabloid’s analysis of Amelia’s condition, they claim that “the extra adrenalin produced in her system [when performing] could send her into a diabetes-induced coma.”
Amelia, who revealed previously that she has suffered from Type 1 diabetes since childhood, explained: “I need four injections a day and I’ve had it for 14 years now.
“It’s just become a daily routine but I still need to be careful. It is serious and I could end up going blind if I have too many high blood sugars.”
She added: “I have to be careful with my bloods and adrenalin uses a lot of energy, so I need to decrease my insulin before I perform. It’s hard to get the balance right but I always decrease my insulin just before performing to be safe.
“There’s still a risk that something could happen on stage but I can tell if I’m shaking or need chocolate.
“My family look out for me as well. It’s been drilled in my head to be careful.”
