Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole is said to be just days away from signing her contract for The X Factor USA, according to highly respected industry magazine Variety. The American publication suggests that a deal between Cheryl and X Factor makers Fox is just days away from being announced.
The news puts an end to nearly a year of speculation over whether or not Cheryl, 27, would be joining the US version of the show which launches this fall. The move also makes it almost certain that the ‘Promise This’ singer will not be returning to the UK programme when auditions started next month.
However despite being close to agreeing a deal, one top US PR guru suggested success in the states would be hard to come by for Cheryl. “The amount of drama that seems to follow this young lady around could make any career opportunity in America almost impossible,” Rob Shutter told heat magazine.
Cheryl was convicted of ABH in 2003 after hitting a toilet attendant in a nightclub, less than a month after she scored her first number one hit as part of Girls Aloud with ‘Sound Of The Underground’
“She has shown no remorse over the mistake she has made,” Shutter continued, “If she was already a star in America and we found out all of this troubling information, she might have a chance.
“But as no one knows her here in the USA , all this drama could define her. You only get to make a first impression once and this isn’t the one you want to make.”
‘Pre-auditions’ for The X Factor USA are currently underway in major cities across the country.
