Red or Black faces axe, say hosts Ant and Dec

Ant and Dec (Red or Black)

Red or Black hosts Ant and Dec have admitted that the show could well be axed after flopping on ITV1 last week. What was billed as a huge TV event failed to attract viewers, with just over 4 million viewers tuning to some episodes.

Costing a reported £15 million to produce, the weeklong show failed to attract the 9 or so million viewers ITV were apparently expecting.

But while the future of the show in uncertain, Dec said the programme could still work with some tweaking.

He explained: “It was our first series and we all learned a lot from it. I think we can improve the show.

“We’ll just see what ITV says — they’re the ones who sign the cheques.”

And the Geordie telly presenter added: “Simon texted on Sunday morning when the viewing figures came in. It did well on Saturday and finished on a high.”

Simon Cowell last week insisted: “I’d change a few things but the response from the public is that they like it.”
