Channel 4 has announced details of its new multiplatform gameshow The Bank Job, which launches today with an online game.
Airing stripped across six nights in January, the show takes place in a real bank vault. On each of the first five nights, four contestants will play a competitive game of knowledge, judgement and luck, and whoever triumphs will leave with a case full of money.
The five victors will then return on the final night and pool together their money – which could amount to hundreds of thousands of pounds – for a winner-takes-all grand final.
The only way to get on the show is by playing an online game, available from today on Channel4.com, which mirrors the TV programme. During scheduled tournaments, players will go head-to-head in real time answering general knowledge questions inside a virtual vault.
For each correct answer players can pick one of 25 ‘deposit boxes’, which either contain nothing, a sum of money, or a ‘steal’, which allows them to take cash from their opponent. They need skill, strategy and luck – leaving the vault too early leaves more boxes for their rival, leaving too late puts their cash at risk from a steal or worse, getting locked in the vault.
Whoever leaves the vault with the most money wins, and anybody that wins twice during a tournament will become an ‘elite player’ and unlock the application form.
Further details, including scheduling and presenters, are yet to be confirmed.
