Production company STV are reportedly looking at airing the show on alternative channels including the Scottish region of ITV itself due to good ratings for the series. A spokeswoman for STV confirmed the news saying: ”STV is exploring a range of of options for Taggart with a number of broadcasting. We are committed to the brand and recognize the continuing popularity of the long-running series.

A spokesperson for ITV said: ”We have decided not to commission any more series of Taggart for the ITV network. Since it was first broadcast in 1983, Taggart has been one of ITV’s most enduring dramas. But, reflecting the demands of our audience, and as part of the ongoing creative renewal of the ITV1 schedule, our priority is to invest in new and original drama on the channel.”

Are you sad to hear of the end of the show where ”There’s been a murder” or do you agree that it has came to a point where it cannot carry on any longer?

I am very sad to hear that Taggart is to be axed, The show has a loyal following here in Australia.
I’ts been a show that has changed with the times. Shame on ITV1 for axeing it. There will never be another show like it that has lasted so long. To the cast, many thanks for all your hard work, and all the bast for the future.

We have been purchasing DVD’s of Taggart for a long time as we do not get the show in Canada. Maybe you could make a deal with CTV and sell the Rights to the Canadian Television Companies who will no doubt keep in going for another 28 years. There are an awful lot of us Scottish born living here, loving the show as we trade DVD’s back and forth across the Prairies.
Why is it that when something is REALLY good you Powers That Be sitting in the leather upholstered seats have to smash it. The Americans know they have a good thing going with Law & Order…even managed to make 2 really popular spin-off with it.
For the cast that always maintained believability and great acting, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To hear your Scottish voices in itself was sheer joy. I am missing you already.
