The X Factor is one of the UK’s top entertainment shows, it has an audience of around 12 million a week and it has spawned 24 UK Number one singles… but it is also top of the celebrity hit list for rants and negative backlash. Only this week, Jonathan Ross and Kasabian’s Tom Meighan have become the latest to blast the show.
I love the programme! I think for entertainment value, for helping people move on in the industry and for getting the public involved, it cannot be beaten. Simon Cowell and his team should be given a huge pat on the back for what they have achieved since 2004.
You only have to log on to Twitter and Facebook during the show to see what an impact it has and love it or hate it, everyone talks about it.
It has launched the careers of people like Leona Lewis, JLS, One Direction and countless many others, none of whom would be where they are without the show.
Yes, there will always be negative feedback from contestants about the way they were treated, but they know what they are letting themselves in for and know the risks that go with being involved with such a big show.
Let’s also not forget the three charity records that have been released, raising much needed funds for Help For Heroes and the Great Ormond Street Hospital. I am sure a fourth will follow during the live shows and raise even more money.
Coming out and slating this huge show is an easy target for a celebrity looking for a bit of extra PR because they know their ‘controversial’ views will be published, but it is also great PR for the show as they are giving it even more publicity.
I think the winter weekend nights will be a darker place once the show finally calls it a day but until then my message is simple, if you don’t like the X Factor, DON’T WATCH IT!
